John suffered a severe stroke four years ago which was complicated by diabetes. Two of our carers visited four times each day to support meal times, all personal care, dressing and medication as well as turning him regularly. John also had physiotherapy at home and we all admired his positive attitude and determination to get better, setting himself daily goals. With our carers’ support he began to get stronger and begin to move from his bed to a chair. Over the months he was able to rely less on us and slowly regain his independence, although we visited to support him and keep a watchful eye on his progress. We were as delighted as John on the day he was able to stand to his full 6ft height again, able to stand and walk with a trolley and no longer rely on us – he is a true inspiration to us all!
